Public Demonstration Projects

The 10,000 Rain Gardens Project has installed five rainwater harvesting demonstration projects throughout Marin County. Each project site was selected based on being readily accessible to the public for self-guided tours.

Rainwater harvesting systems can vary tremendously based on the specific characteristics of a given property and the water-use intentions of the people living or working on the property. These demonstration projects illustrate a variety of solutions to issues of slope, soil type, mature landscaping and trees, building proximity and moisture problems, space limitations, erosion and flooding. They model different size above-ground cisterns and rain gardens. By mid-December, each project will include an interpretive sign explaining project particulars.
